Bus Sacred Valley Machu Picchu — 2-Day Private Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Ollantaytambo from Cusco

The Sacred Valley offers a wide range of tourist destinations that require time to explore properly. Given its extent and cultural richness, we have designed two options so that you can fully enjoy it. Both alternatives begin at 7:00 am with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. Below are the options available for your consideration. Tell us your choice:

Option 01: Through Pisac (Alpaca farm, Pisac ruins, Pisac Market, Ollantaytambo)

We will begin your excursion to the Sacred Valley by picking you up from your hotel at 07:00 am in Cusco. First, we will explore an alpaca farm (Manos de la Comunidad), where you can admire alpacas, llamas, vicuñas, and guanacos up close. We will continue toward the impressive Pisac ruins and the vibrant Pisac Market, where you can enjoy local crafts and culture.

After a delicious lunch in Urubamba, we will head to the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Site, an ancient Inca citadel of great historical importance. After visiting Ollantaytambo, we will take the train to the town of Machu Picchu at 15:37.

Option 02: By Chinchero (Chinchero, Maras–Moray, and Ollantaytambo)

In this Sacred Valley tour option from Cusco, we will pick you up at 07:00 am at your hotel. We will begin with a visit to the Chinchero Textile Center, where you will learn about the rich textile tradition of the place. Then we will go to the charming colonial town of Maras.

From Maras, we will continue toward the Inca site of Moray, famous for its circular terraces that were once used for experimenting with crops. We will then visit the impressive salt mines dating back to pre-Inca times, where water is channeled through pools to produce pure salt crystals.

Our final destination will be the ruins of Ollantaytambo, an ancient Inca citadel that offers stunning views and fascinating history. After visiting Ollantaytambo, we will take the train to the town of Machu Picchu at 15:37.

Day 2: Machu Picchu Day

The second day is the highlight of our adventure: Machu Picchu. We will wake up early to make sure we capture the magic of sunrise over the majestic Inca ruins.

Our guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to the bus station. The bus ride to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary takes approximately 30 minutes. Upon arrival, we will present our passports and entry tickets at entry control. Then, we will stop at the guardhouse to capture an iconic photograph of Machu Picchu and receive a brief introduction to its history.

After this introduction, our guide will take us to explore the highlights of Machu Picchu for approximately 2 hours, following circuit 2. We will visit the Main Gate, the Temple of the Sun, the Inca Quarry, the Main Square, the Inca House, the Sacred Rock, the Temple of the Condor, and other emblematic places.

Later, we will return to the town of Machu Picchu by bus, where you will have approximately 2 hours to have lunch, shop for souvenirs, and board the train back to Ollantaytambo.

From Ollantaytambo, we will transfer back to Cusco by private transportation. Once in Cusco, we will accompany you back to your hotel, arriving at approximately 19:30.

Considerations: Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley Private Tour (2 Days)

Infographic outlining important considerations for a Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley Private Tour, such as budgeting for meals, preparing for altitude changes, and bringing your original passport. - Magical Cusco Travel Agency

For the safest and most enjoyable experience, keep in mind:

  • Meal Budgeting Required
All food excluded; allocate ~$25-40/day. Urubamba (Day 1) and Aguas Calientes (Day 2) offer varied dining, cash/cards accepted.
  • Itinerary Choice Deadline
Select Option 1 or 2 in advance. Last-minute changes disrupt hotel/train coordination due to fixed 15:37 ex-Ollantaytambo schedule.
  • Altitude Variation Preparedness
Sites span 2,040m (Machu Picchu) to 3,700m (Sacred Valley passes). Acclimatize 2-3 days in Cusco; carry coca leaves.
  • Footwear for Diverse Terrain
Sturdy shoes essential, cobblestones in Ollantaytambo, uneven paths at Pisac/Moray, and steep steps at Machu Picchu.
  • Punctual Train Coordination
Day 1 train departs Ollantaytambo at 15:37 sharp. Delays risk forfeiting included tickets, monitor time during explorations.
  • Passport Validity Critical
Original passport mandatory for Machu Picchu entry and train boarding. Photocopies invalid; keep it accessible both days.
